Consultation opens on Decision-making framework

23 Apr 2019

Today the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (the NMBA) opened public consultation on the proposed Decision-making framework for nurses and midwives.

Feedback to the proposed Decision-making framework for nurses and midwives (the DMF) is invited via an online survey by close of business on Monday 17 June 2019.

The proposed DMF provides a guide to decision-making relating to scope of practice and delegation. It promotes consistent safe, person-centred and evidence-based decision-making across the nursing and midwifery professions.

The DMF has been developed from an evidence-based review of the current National framework for the development of decision-making tools for nursing and midwifery practice (the national framework). Changes to the national framework in the proposed DMF include:

  • clearer, simpler content
  • strengthening the involvement of the person receiving care in the decision-making, and
  • providing clearer guidance for registered nurses and midwives on delegating to enrolled nurses and other health workers.

To have your say, please read the proposed DMF and the consultation document, and respond to the feedback questions via the online survey link on the Consultations section of the NMBA website. The consultation closes on Monday 17 June 2019.
