The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (National Board or NMBA) is seeking suitably qualified and experienced parties to review the Registered nurse standards for practice.
This document was formally referred to as National competency standards for the registered nurse.
Since the competency standards for the registered nurse were first developed, there have been substantial developments in the role and scope of practice of the registered nurse across Australia. There has also been notable advancement in the model of education and training leading to registration and the regulatory framework within which registration and enrolment of nurses and midwives occurs.
The recent move to a national system of regulation and accreditation of health related courses provides the catalyst for a review of the Registered nurse standards for practice to ensure they reflect contemporary practice and appropriate educational preparation.
